Vaginal Rejuvenation Vaginal rejuvenation refers to surgical techniques used to enhance or restore sexual satisfaction or improve the appearance of the genitals.
Vaginoplasty Vaginal relaxation is laxity of the vagina and vulva, the “pelvic floor” which can occur after vaginal delivery or with genetic weakness of these muscles. It can be associated with difficulty in bladder control or emptying or with difficulty in defecation. Many women, and their partners, complain of decreased sexual gratification as the entrance to the vagina becomes wider with less muscle tone. Vaginoplasty refers to surgery designed to restore the vaginal area to the tightness and appearance it had before childbirth.
Labioplasty Some women have problems due to the size of the labia, the outer lips of the vagina. In some cases, the problem is purely cosmetic but in others, the size of the lips can cause discomfort when wearing jeans or tight underwear or when engaged in activities such as horseback riding or bicycling. Occasionally, they can also cause pain with sex if the labia are so large that they fold into the vagina. Labioplasty is the procedure used to reduce the size of the labia or lips.
Hymen reconstruction For some women, for religious or other reasons, integrity of the hymen is important. Hymen reconstruction involves closing the hymen across to form a virginal type opening to the vagina.
These procedures are performed under light general or local anesthesia as an outpatient. After a short time of observation, the woman is discharged home with oral pain medication and generally can resume sexual activity in three to four weeks.
